About Nathan Hsu

I want to build cool things. I love working on projects that are useful to myself and other people, and software is one of the ways I know how to do that. After I read "The Little Book that Still Beats the Market", I needed to try it out myself, so I wrote a Python script that implements the Magic Formula (ranks stocks based on Earnings Yield and Return on Capital), not because I thought I would make a lot of money, but because I wanted to try it and see if it worked with my own money. I'm currently working on a project in Rust and Python that uses machine learning to identify table tennis shots based on video clips and automatically collect match statistics. It's still early in development, but it has been a ton of fun. Why table tennis? I've been a high-level table tennis athlete for most of my life. I might not complete anymore, but on the weekends, I still coach table tennis to up-and-coming junior players because I enjoy sharing my table tennis knowledge and techniques to young players; after all, I remember how much fun it was to discover new ways to improve my own table tennis abilities. Career-wise, I'm looking for a software development/engineering position where I can be passionate about my work, learn a lot, and know why I'm working on what I'm working on. Remote work is a must for me because I hate commute times, and I work best in the comfort of my own room (while talking out loud to myself).
