About Nathan Payas

Nathan is an ACCA qualified accountant. He comes to the GFA from EY Gibraltar where he was the Senior Manager in Advisory Services and the Business Development Officer. During his time at EY Nathan specialised in the following services: • Financial Forecasting, Financial Analysis, Business Plans for finance raising for new projects • Internal audit service provision (cyclical business wide internal audit reviews, including Financial Control) • Data Protection & GDPR (design, implementation and audit of the control framework) • Financial Crime - AML/CFT (design, implementation and audit of the control framework) • Staff training Prior to that he was a Manager at Baker Tilly Gibraltar leading a team of accountants specialising in Accounting, Audit and Tax. Nathan led the firm’s transition to FRS102 upon its introduction to Gibraltar. Nathan started his accounting profession at Deloitte Gibraltar where he worked for the Business Advisory Services department as a trainee accountant. Nathan has two bachelor’s degrees, one in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University another from the University of Hull in Music. He has a postgraduate diploma from the University of Bloomington in Indiana, USA and a certificate of competence in Gibraltar Tax from the University of Gibraltar. Nathan brings a unique combination of professional and personal skills. Formerly a professional operatic tenor, living and singing for many years abroad (1997-2008) from the USA to Japan, he feels at home working with people from different nationalities and cultures and can converse comfortably in four different European languages, including Italian and German. He is well known within the local community for both his singing career and his achievements as an open water swimmer. Nathan is an English Channel Swimmer and has completed many other extraordinary swimming challenges achieving the following: • Fastest Gibraltarian Round the Rock swim at 2hrs 58 mins. • Winner of the 20 Bridges Race in NY – 46 km swim, 7 hrs 21 mins. • Only person to have completed a double Round the Rock of Gibraltar, 6hrs 33mins. • 1 of 10 people to have completed a Double Strait of Gibraltar without a neoprene suit. • 8th fastest Triple Crown aggregate time in the world (English Channel, Catalina Channel, Manhattan Swim NY) • Fastest CS & PF English Channel swim in 2016, 9hrs 13mins. • Second fastest Round Island of Jersey Swim ever (1.01 minutes away from the record–over 66km), 9hrs 27mins. • Within the 20 fastest non-neoprene-assisted Gibraltar Strait Crossings ever, 3hrs 15mins.
