Background
About Nathan Summers
I have spent 23 years working in communities that provide services to our seniors. During my career in Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), I have led teams in all service areas including food & beverage, maintenance, security, housekeeping, landscaping, arts & leisure, wellness and administration. In 2015, I received the award for “Innovation in Customer Service” from LeadingAge of North Carolina; an association that promotes the service and welfare of aging adults. A Certified Aging Services Professional, I have helped three communities receive and maintain the important CARF accreditation for CCRCs. A Certified Aging Services Professional, I have worked with various project development teams and with post-construction implementations. These include major renovations to the historic Pinehurst Country Club in preparation for the Men’s U.S. Open Golf Championship and the renovation of the 100 year old five-story Pine Needles Hotel for senior living apartments. I currently serve on the Board of the Durham Center for Senior Life ( https://dcslnc.org/) as the Finance Committee Chair and on the general board. I also work as a volunteer committee member for the annual fundraisers of the Exchange Family Center ( Before coming to Durham, I served on the board of the United Way of Moore County, North Carolina for 4 years. While in Moore County, I was an active member of the Sandhills Kiwanis Club and served as secretary as well as President Elect. For eight years running, I chaired the highest grossing fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association that was held in Moore County; a motorcycle “Memory Ride for Alzheimer’s”. I believe leaders should strive to lead with kindness, fairness, humor and have a love of learning. I work to be a culture weaver through trust-building and role-modeling; crafting a collective journey that is fun and meaningful every day.
