About Nathan Thomas

On dark bus rides to school in the morning, when I had no one to talk, music was my escape. It still is. I love listening to it, thinking about it, playing it on the radio, and writing about it. To help hone my craft, and my voice, I am studying journalism at Marshall University. It is at Marshall where I serve as the music director at 88.1 WMUL-FM, the college radio station. In this position, I have a front-row seat to a growing music scene, and am able to help tell artists’ stories through giving them exposure via the radio, and social media presence. Previously, I’ve interned for West Virginia Public Broadcasting and NPR Music’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce. There I produced an audio documentary on R.E.M.’s historic 1991 visit to the show. My writing has been featured in the Charleston Gazette, The Herald-Dispatch, Hooting and Howling Magazine, The Parthenon, and the WMUL music staff Tumblr.
