Background
About Nathan Weeks
I am a recent graduate of the University of Colorado (B.S. Chemistry, 4.00 GPA; M.Sc. Chemistry, 4.00 GPA) with extensive research experience seeking to apply my computational expertise and diversify my skillset within a cutting-edge industry. My degrees may be in chemistry, but my passions are for coding, writing algorithms, and developing software to solve problems with efficiency, extract statically meaningful insights from data, model complex phenomena, construct information rich visualizations, and much more. Throughout my graduate career I developed custom algorithms and wrote software to efficiently analyze vast numbers of different large clusters of atoms called semiconductor nanocrystals (commonly called quantum dots). I am adept at writing and optimizing code in MATLAB, Python, and Mathematica. I did not follow a traditional route when learning to write code, but I believe the unique route I did take makes me a prime candidate for any data science, visualization, or scientific modeling position in industry. Not only did I learn the necessary skills, but I have developed a knack for solving, modeling, analyzing, and visualizing complex and difficult problems. When I tackle a problem, I have the skillset to attack it from many angles: by optimizing mathematical structure, writing unique algorithms, or more efficiently utilizing available hardware. However, the most important attribute I bring to the table is my ability to quickly learn intricate subjects and master difficult skills. Three years ago, I had no coding experience, but after just a few months of exposure I learned to code and became adept at applying my knowledge to solve novel problems. It is my capability to learn and apply new knowledge and skills quickly that will make me an asset and, hopefully, a valuable addition to your team.
