Background
About Nathaniel Collier
My employment history includes holding the position of Sales Associate for the JCPenney Company, the position of Barista at Cana Cafe and the position of Barista/Cafe Associate at the Knoxville South Target. I worked for JCPenney from July of 2016 until November of 2016. I learned many skills during my time as a Sales Associate such as customer service, self-responsibility and most importantly, decision making. As a Sales Associate, I often had to make decisions on product and customer related issues without the ability to always be in contact with my supervisors. During my time at the Cana Café, December of 2015 until August of 2018, I learned an innumerable amount of skills. The Cana Café was Maranatha Chapel’s “coffee” division, so to speak. As a barista, I not only needed to know how to craft the drinks that we offered, but also be personally responsible for my own actions as it was a direct reflection of the church in the local community. Furthermore, due to the nature of the café, I would often only be working with one other person and as a result, quickly learned to multitask when the line became long. I am still currently employed at the Target corp. primarily as a barista for the in-store Starbucks. My time working there has shown me a whole new respect and understanding for both time management and customer service; due in part to the sheer number of customers I serve each day. While there is plenty of overlap with what I learned while volunteering for the Cana Cafe, there have also been a significant number of differences that came with working at a busier and more “high traffic” store such as Starbucks. I have had to learn not only how to work well as a team but also how to work sufficiently on my own. I have also had to learn how to efficiently manage and properly utilize my time while at work because of the increased amount of responsibilities that the job presents.
