About Nathaniel Hodgson

I feel that I have an ethical responsibility to contribute to the greatest engineering challenge of our time: making our society more sustainable. Within my lifetime, we’ve done incredible work to advance the feasibility of renewable energy technologies and reduce waste and pollution in all industries, but a herculean effort is still needed to prevent the worst effects of climate change and protect the most vulnerable among us. I’m excited to advance this cause and hope to work with companies that share my passion. I also feel that I have a responsibility as a good citizen of the world to learn about other cultures and ways of life. This, to me, is the essence of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I believe that any professional – engineers included – that learns about other cultures is better prepared for their work in our diverse and ever-changing world. One of my formative experiences in sustainability and cultural learning was my high school capstone project. I analyzed how distributed solar PV and battery arrays could bolster Puerto Rico’s ailing energy infrastructure and eventually, after meeting with local architects and learning about the island’s climate, materials, and history, designed a household array for use there. I learned that when engineers and scientists make an effort to consider the unique needs of different communities, all parties benefit.
