About Nathaniel Lewis

My professional experience is best described as living between the two worlds of analytical biochemistry and synthetic organic chemistry. I have 10 years of experience in process development groups, with a large focus on the development of analytical methods for the characterization of large biomolecules. This experience ranges from the development of standard chromatographic, electrophoretic, biophysical, and plate based methods for protein characterization to the development of more specialized assays useful for the detection of in-process impurities (such as residual small molecule intermediates in drug conjugate formulations) or testing of critical raw materials (peg oxidation assays). In addition to my skills as an analytical chemist, I also have extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry. My graduate work in the Michael lab at the University of Washington focused on the development of new methods for the catalysis of organic reactions (e.g. nucleophilic ring openings, aldol variants, cycloadditions, etc.) using chiral bronsted acids. I have also worked in industrial solid phase synthesis labs synthesizing, modifying, and characterizing peptides for use in immunological research discovery efforts.
