Background
About Nathaniel Stevens
I have experience in a broad range of environmental and land use legal matters, including permitting, development, contamination, conservation, real estate restrictions, coastal and inland wetlands and floodplains, water supply, water pollution, subdivision control, local zoning, stormwater, air pollution, and energy facility siting. In addition to cases in the Massachusetts Superior and Land Court, Appeals Court, and Supreme Judicial Court, I have handled administrative proceedings in the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (“MassDEP”), Division of Administrative Law Appeals, Energy Facilities Siting Board, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”). I have also appeared before many city and town boards and commissions. I am admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. My goal is to provide the best service to my clients, utilizing litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and other problem-solving skills to achieve their goals. My work benefits from my teaching, writing, and volunteer positions. I have conducted training through the Citizen Planner Training Collaborative (“CPTC”) for Planning Boards and Zoning Boards and have led Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commission (“MACC”) workshops for Conservation Commissions. My articles on subjects such as wetlands protection law, climate change resiliency and adaptation, Home Rule, and DEP regulatory reforms have been published by the Real Estate Bar Association, MACC, and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. I currently serve as a Member of the Arlington Conservation Commission, which I had the honor of chairing for many years. Prior to law school and after receiving my Master’s Degree in Natural Resource Policy and Planning, I was awarded a John Knauss Sea Grant Fellowship to study national marine policy in Washington, D.C. During and after this national fellowship, I worked on wetlands policy issues in the Wetlands Division of the EPA.
