About Navid Saeidi
As a PhD candidate at Carleton University, I study earthquake simulation and ground motion analysis to help us better understand seismic hazards and assess risk more effectively. Before I became interested in earthquakes, I obtained my master's degree in petroleum engineering. My thesis focused on "Construction of capillary pressure curves from NMR logs in the framework of reservoir rock types," which provided a deep dive into pore-scale properties and their impact on reservoir behavior. Before that, I earned a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, and my thesis focused on using statistical methods to interpret well log data—my first real experience combining data, earth systems, and analytical thinking. Whether it's the rocks beneath our feet or the waves they generate during a quake, I’ve spent my career learning how the subsurface behaves and how we can measure and model.
