About Neal Bastick

What does it take to be successful? This is an age-old question with a number of intelligent responses, but let me take my best shot at an answer. In my experience success directly correlates with perseverance, stamina, and the understanding that whatever setbacks come my way are not permanent conditions. Let me explain a bit further. And be a bit more vulnerable in the process. I have a solid work ethic. I work long, hard hours and find taking a proper break difficult, much to the chagrin of those closest to me. Staying at the desk longer than is good for you when your family wants you at the dinner table is of course not what I would recommend as persevere in the face of adversity! More seriously in my successful career, adversity has taken many forms. It can be a boss that doesn’t quite see eye-to-eye with me, a health challenge keeping me from my best physical condition, or the challenge of taking a company and transforming it into a successful business. In situations like these, success depends on staying the course and riding out the storm. You won't see me give up on my aspirations just because the water has become a bit choppy. Confidence has helped me stick to my guns and reach my goals. This is the ethos I bring to my current work with XLeap, a company I run alongside my colleague and friend Wolfram Hoegel. In a way, the facilitation software that we’ve developed reflects my world view - it helps anybody who needs to make better decisions both tactically and strategically to hear it as it is. The input of the group is honest and the most complete I’ve seen in my professional life. Of course, getting the unvarnished truth isn’t always comfortable. But it is much better to know and deal with, than to have a “nice meeting” only to learn of unpleasant surprises or missed opportunities later. My hope is that this software will also help others. Getting stuff on the table, judging it on its merits and prioritising what matters, and what does not, is what modern leadership should be about.
