About Nebil Behar

Trained as a colorectal surgeon in London, I have been working as a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Laparoscopic & Emergency Surgery at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London since 2010. I specialize in dealing with abdominal emergencies and complications after general surgical operations. Electively I perform all types of hernias including complex ones, bowel surgery and anal conditions. The commonest operations I perform in emergency are intra-abdominal infections including appendicitis and diverticulitis, perianal conditions and bowel obstruction due to variety of causes including cancer and adhesions which I aim to treat laparoscopically as first line. I also perform Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy including therapeutic techniques. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, I have a particular interest in teaching and decision making. Nationally, I am an active member of the Association of Emergency Surgeons which aims to provide a dedicated Consultant level service to our sickest patients while providing focused training in Emergency Surgery for trainees. My research areas are decision making training, minimally invasive management of complicated diverticulitis, novel techniques in surgery and team communications. I am also the lead for infection control in Surgery at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and have an interest in judicious use of antibiotics and probiotics in control of infections.
