Background
About Neil McLaughlin
Since 1982 I have had the privilege of employment in various roles in health care. In my first few positions I served in the pre-hospital and emergency services settings as a paramedic and a registered nurse. From 1987 until 2001, I served in several regional and national leadership roles in the organ and tissue donation and transplantation fields while residing in PA and NC. Over the next 14 plus years at Valley Health, I initially served as the Director of Patient Services at War Memorial Hospital (41 bed license - Berkeley Springs WV) from 2001-2007 and then in the VP of Operations position from 2007-2009 before being promoted to a health system vice president and president of War Memorial Hospital in February 2009. In December 2010 I received an additional appointment as the interim president at Hampshire Memorial Hospital (44 bed license - Romney WV) during the final stages of its replacement construction. From 2011 through November 2015, I was the chief executive of these two Critical Access Hospitals for Valley Health as president of both entities. In November 2015, I accepted a new challenge as the Vice President of Operations WVU Medicine in the Eastern Panhandle of WV. In this position I had the executive oversight of daily operations at Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson WV for the Critical Access Hospital there with additional responsibilities for select service lines and administrative functions at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. As of January 1, 2023, I started a new role within WVU Medicine in the Eastern Panhandle as the VP of Strategic Projects and Partnerships. This new role focuses my attention on the planning, design, maintenance, and construction of our physical facilities along with project planning for growth and expansion. It affords me opportunities to work with community partners to further the health care delivery environment, improve access to care, and align services for more seamless transitions of care. I have a bachelor’s degree (RN 1985 Alderson-Broaddus College, WV) and two master’s degrees;(MEd 1992 - Penn State) and (Executive MBA 2006 - WVU). I enjoy bringing humor to the workplace and a common sense / relational approach to management. It is my experience that the greatest energies and outputs come when people are genuinely engaged and aligned with their work teammates.
