About Nelson Dunford

When I find myself in deep water I learn to swim quickly. I have spent the majority of my career in public service, primarily helping individuals who struggle with mental health and substance use disorders get the help they need to address and overcome their issues. I have taken a special interest in justice reform and the utilization of specialty and treatment courts to ensure appropriate and effective use of resources in aiding participants. I have logged thousands of hours in the courtroom, where I have honed my ability to prepare, think on my feet, and present convincing arguments. I have prepared motions, briefs, and reports, in which I have used my superior research and writing abilities to address matters of first impression in Colorado courts, and have never lost a contested motions hearing where legal interpretation was at issue. I have supervised, taught, and trained other attorneys and law enforcement personnel in topics ranging from report writing and legislative updates to litigation skills and docket management techniques. I am friendly, professional, teachable, open to change, and able to cope with and conquer all kinds of difficult and emergency situations.
