About Nelson Duque

I am a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Energy and Power. In high school, I was exposed to Autodesk inventor for four years, and as an undergraduate, I have explored Solidworks and Autodesk Fusion 360. Apart from my required engineering courses, I have taken additional engineering electives, namely Combustion for Energy Conversion, Fuel Cells, and Sustainable Energy Sources and Systems. Through the additional projects and course work, these classes have exposed me further to Python and Matlab, as well as a deeper understanding of the connections between different fields of engineering, specifically chemical and electrical and their relationship to mechanical applications. My Senior Design project for Zachry Nuclear further developed my problem-solving skills while my team and I developed a predictive analytical model of a physical chiller system. Using fundamentals of thermodynamics and heat transfer, we created a model that ultimately yielded results with less than 1% total system error. This project improved my understanding of the relationships between theory and application, and especially introduced me to the process of solving a problem with missing information, requiring multiple assumptions and the ability to justify them.
