About Nelson Gapare

In the last 20 years I have worked in forestry, environmental sustainability and climate change in various countries managing various programs and projects. I have a background in business administration/strategy, forestry, project management, GIS/Remote sensing with a particular interest in international rural development. With this background I have worked in a number of countries including, New Zealand, Australia, Tanzania, Laos, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Guyana, Congo DRC, Vietnam, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Zambia, Malawi and Australia, Uganda, Bhutan, Nigeria I have held several positions including a leadership role for the development of the New Zealand Carbon Accounting System, leading the review of the UN REDD National Program in Tanzania, mid-term and final evaluations of several projects in Tanzania on REDD+, Vietnam, for various international agencies including FAO, UNDP, World Bank, Finland and Norway development agencies as well the private sector investors in CDM projects. Some specific areas i have experience include forestry resource monitoring, REDD+, MRV, Program/Project Management based on ITIL and Prince 2. With this wide range of areas, more recently i have focused on program evaluations and reviews for opportunities to improve implementation or formulation of subsequent phases particularly in REDD+. What am I doing at the moment? World Bank - supporting the FCPF REDD+ readiness process and the development of the Carbon Fund Emission Reductions Program for 6 provinces in Lao PDR Royal Government of Bhutan - Development of the National REDD+ Strategy FAO - Supporting capacity needs assessment for REDD+ MRV in Sudan
