About Nesreen Hammoud

Passionately supporting Indigenous Women within the Ontario region through my role as a Gladue Writer at Ontario Native Women’s Association. During my undergraduate degree, I have complete professional training in mental health first aid and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, as well as practicum placements providing counselling services and outreach to individuals, families and communities. I have significant experience working with marginalized communities within the Criminal Justice System and strive to continue advocating for alternatives to incarceration through culturally appropriate programs and services. Through my diverse experience, I have gained greater insight into systemic and structural barriers within the Justice System which continue to contribute to the discrimination and over representation of vulnerable communities. The purpose of my current role provides the community member with the opportunity to share their sacred story, offering greater insights to the courts, prior to sentencing.
