About Nevan Shokar

Nevan Shokar has over a dozen years of experience in real estate investment, development, and public-sector economic development. He began his career at Welltower (NYSE: WELL), where he completed over $2.7 billion in acquisitions and dispositions, and later joined Miller Capital Advisory, advising CALPERS and leading the $1.1 billion acquisition of Miracle Mile Shops. Returning to Detroit, Nevan joined the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) to help drive the city’s revitalization. He helped structure incentives for major projects including District Detroit, the Hudson’s site, and the Fiat-Chrysler Mack Avenue Plant, collectively supporting billions in investment and thousands of new jobs. Nevan then served as Vice President at Basco, leading leasing, incentives, financing, and asset management, and securing over $20 million in grant and low-cost loan funding for a new $38 million mixed-use development which is under construction. He now focuses full-time on Shokar Group, which he founded in 2022. Nevan is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and has participated in ULI’s Larson Leadership Initiative, Leadership Detroit, and the Mackinac Future Leaders program.
