Background
About Nial Obrien
As Aurecon's Global Capability Leader for Roads, I am responsible for our global Roads and Highways offerings. I drive best practice digital solutions and embrace new technologies to ensure we are at the front end of industry to ensure we deliver better and smarter for our clients in line with our Principles that describe our culture, where our people can flourish and bring our clients’ ideas to life.namely; Create a legacy - We engineer for life, serving society to create a positive legacy, Be playful with serious intent - Creativity is a talent and a way of operating. Our curiosity, creative energy and air help our clients shape the future, Believe it. Say it. Do it- We help our clients make the world a better place through focus, discipline and commitment to excellence, Make the complex simple - We are sensemakers to our clients in the face of complexity. This is the essence of mastery in one’s eld, Be nimble - We make the most of opportunities brought about by fast-changing client and community needs; and Master your craft - Our heritage and experience give us the right to innovate and stretch the boundaries of the possible. In 2015, I was nominated by female leaders in the business to be one of fifteen male champions of change to promote gender diversity and challenge gender discrimination within the business and industry. I have used this position to continue advocating gender diversity, support and promote high performing females in the business. The role of Male Champion of Change has enabled me to support gender initiatives such as Women in Transport and the Diversity Council of Australia. I am actively involved in the Indigenous Engineering Summer School (Uni of Sydney) and the Galawa Program (UTS) to foster and support young indigenous children with an aim of guiding a career path in Engineering. I am an advocate for LGBTQI equality in the workplace and promote awareness around what is a very misunderstood and unappreciated issue.
