About Nicholas Barone

With over a decade of experience in teaching English as a second language (ESL) and academic writing, I am an educator and researcher who strives to create and deliver innovative and inclusive curricula that foster students' academic, social, and emotional growth. Currently, I am a teaching faculty at Compass Community Schools, a network of charter schools that serves diverse and underserved communities in Memphis, TN. I have a post master's certificate in college teaching from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master's degree in TESOL from Dankook University. I have conducted and published research on literacy, student engagement, and the repeated reading method, and authored a book on children's literature and worms. Some of the projects I have initiated or contributed to include designing and teaching a course on 20th century popular U.S. music, developing and implementing video presentations as a tool for enhancing students' oral and digital skills, and collaborating with other educators and researchers on best practices and strategies for ESL instruction. I am passionate about introducing young learners to the natural world and scientific inquiry, and empowering them to express themselves confidently and creatively.
