About Nicholas Bukin

After my A-levels I studied for a bachelors degree in "BSc Nanotechnology (Chemical)" at Leeds University and obtained the grade 2.1 with honours (1,7 in the German system). I then acquired my Doctorate of Physics from the University of Exeter, UK, in September 2018. I also tutored KS3, GCSE and A-Level maths, chemistry, and physics during my PhD and post-doctorate. Over the years I have learned many science and engineering skills and had a truly interdisciplinary background. My bachelors degree consisted mostly of modules in chemistry and biochemistry, with practical-based lab modules each semester. The PhD was entirely physics and maths based, however, with some MatLab and Java coding too. Even without any undergraduate Physics knowledge, I successfully completed my PhD with minor corrections to my thesis. I have a very well-developed set of cleanroom laboratory skills and etiquette, having been trained on the use of many machines often seen in one, including but not limited to; photolithography resist spinning and baking, Electron-Beam Lithography (EBL), thermal deposition of metals, photolithography lift-off process, wire-bonding, Reactive-Ion Etching (RIE), UV mask aligning, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Focussed Ion Beam (FIB), magnetron sputtering, as well as general wet-bench use and handling of harsh chemicals. In my spare time I like to play drums, guitar, bass guitar, work out at the gym, build computers and tinker with Arduino's. I also enjoy soldering electronic circuits together and fixing things around the house. I can speak fluent German and have some ability to speak French too. I have been described as having a very friendly, relaxed and approachable personality with an open mind and enthusiastic attitude.
