About Nicholas Erickson

Hello— My name is Nicholas and I'm on a mission to improve the way we interact with one another. I've been teaching and lecturing on rhetoric for the past 6 years, and in consulting over 600 students, I’ve helped with love letters, academic papers, PowerPoint presentations, resumes, dissertations, novels, and teaching plans. News is one area where I've noticed considerable rhetorical strife, and I believe the root of the issue is twofold. First, there is a collective lack of skills related to the communication and critical thinking required to sort through the sometimes complex information provided by journalists. Second, there is a lack of dialogue between journalists and their audiences to confirm and clarify information to encourage thoughtful civic engagement. These are the problems Rhetor News aims to address. I believe you can help us create the kind of change that will benefit us all. I'm interested in creating three types of relationships through LinkedIn: · Recruiting freelance journalists to publish on our news platform launching in 2020. · Networking with investors and consultants who can help us grow. · Forming strategic partnerships with other journalism organizations and social causes. A bit about me personally: Deep compassion informs who I am becoming and how I act. I pride myself in caring about and helping others, and I do so in any way I can- The connections between rhetoric, philosophy, psychology, mythology, community/sociology, and leadership/politics fascinate me. I’m particularly interested in the ideas of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, Aristotle, Cicero, and Kenneth Burke. I believe that our culture has several problems we can work out together, and that the only way to do that is to sit down and have a civil conversation where we listen.
