About Nicholas James Winrow

Nicholas is a digital forensic investigation specialist, currently working as a Director in the Forensics & Investigations department at FTI Consulting. He has over 10 years’ experience in the digital forensics industry and during this time has worked independently on a number of complex cases for the defence, prosecution, government departments and corporate clients.His experience includes the (covert & overt) acquisition of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) from mobile phones, computers, servers and other bespoke media, as well as their subsequent analysis in relation to casework including murder, drugs, fraud, indecent imagery, organised crime and corruption. Nicholas also has experience supporting eDiscovery teams involved in litigation throughout various stages of the (Electronic Discovery Reference Model) EDRM Model. In his previous role as a Senior Forensic Investigator, having held both NPPV Level 3 and SC security clearance for all U.K. Police forces including the Metropolitan Police, he has worked on over two hundred (200) investigations and has completed over two hundred and fifty (250) hours of security/ forensic training courses. He also holds a 1st Class BSc Hons Degree in Computer Security and Forensics from Sheffield Hallam University.He has considerable onsite experience of cross border forensic collections of ESI, including in Ireland, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Austria, France, Switzerland, Moldova and the Middle East, as well as significant involvement in supporting corporate clients as a technical expert in the execution of search orders in relation to the illegal sale of grey market goods.In addition to this, he has experience as a digital forensics subject matter expert at court, having previously detailed his findings as an expert witness in the U.K. Crown Court, Magistrates Court and has provided advice to Kings Counsel at U.K. Crown Court and to Senior Counsel at Criminal Court in the Republic of Ireland.
