Background

About Nicholas Maier

I am a rising Junior studying Aerospace Engineering at NC State University. Last summer I was able to work as a camp counselor for NC State’s Engineering Residential Summer Camp, where I had to work with 14 other counselors to oversee around 150 campers during each of the 3 weeks of camp. Because of this, I developed stronger communication skills required to work in an effective team and to manage a large group of people. This summer I have the opportunity to work as an undergraduate research with one of my professors. I am going to be working to understand the properties of propellers that impact their aeroacoustics, or the sound they produce, in an effort to develop props that make less noise. To analyze recorded data and draw conclusions, I will be using programs such as Xfoil and MATLAB. This opportunity is something I am very excited about, as it will allow me to gain experience in an environment related to my major outside of a classroom.I like to spend my free time with people I care about and playing classical guitar. The process of reading sheet music and deciding what each note should sound like gives me a chance to be creative, while still requiring me to practice critical thinking skills.
