About Nicholas Nelson

Throughout my education and career in design, I have been greatly influenced by my teachers and colleagues. They have always encouraged me to polish up my skills so that I could benefit from my craft. By me settling does not make me happy, and that is why I strive for what I want in life. The steps taken and the time spent to obtain your goal is never easy, it is always a challenge. I am unique in my own way, because unlike many people that are inspired by well known designers, I am inspired by those who have provided the best support for me which are my family, classmates, and teachers. No one starts at the top, but we all, as individuals, start from the bottom. I have always been intrigued by designs, advertisements, and commercials shown on television. At the age of twelve I began drawing. Drawing and designing things were more than just a hobby to me. I have never designed anything on a computer until I attended Alabama State University. Design plays an intricate part in our daily lives. While in school, I learned that as a designer my mission is to bring not only visual pleasure, but also being able to create strong visual hierarchy by using of course typography, and imagery. While crafting my designs for the first time, I always shy away from using excessive colors; but, having people critique my work and give me positive and negative feedback, I am proud to say that I do use color more often. My graphics have been called words ranging from extreme to inspirational. I want my designs to have emotions to them as if it is speaking out to someone. My work shows reflection of me in the sense of reality, humor, and love.
