About Nicholas Pleace

I use interdisciplinary, co-productive and comparative approaches to explore the experiences and needs of people experiencing housing exclusion and homelessness within a situation of rising global inequity. My work is aimed at counteracting political, ideological and cultural distortions in mainstream debates, policy and practice and on creating more effective policy responses. I am currently Associate Dean of School (Research and Impact) at the School for Business and Society (SBS), University of York, where I am also a Professor of Housing and Society. Since January 2025, I have been working part time (30%) as an independent researcher in the fields of homelessness and supported housing, while retaining a 70% role at the University of York. I directed the Centre for Housing Policy between 2017 and 2024. I was the Research Theme Champion (RTC)(Justice and Equality) for the University of York between 2019-2022 and worked as the Deputy Dean of School (Interdisciplinary research) at SBS during 2023. In 2024, I took over as Associate Dean for Research and Impact for SBS, acting as Chair of the Research Committee and strategic lead on research development and management for the School for Business and Society. I have led over 50 research projects and worked on over 90. I am available for PhD supervision in suitable subjects.
