About Nicholas Pytel

I have 5 years of professional aerospace and mechanical engineering experience with an emphasis on structural design, weapons integration, and electro-mechanical design. I excel in rapid development, fielding of integrated solutions, leading technical teams, presenting solutions to key leaders, and continuing product support ensuring that customers have the equipment they need for mission success. My hands on experience with manufacturing and fabrication directly supports my designs to ensure the most optimal design for all parties. My 5+ years of military leadership experience as a USMC reserve artillery officer provides a unique perspective in a technical engineering environment which results in better designs and products for the end user. Having been an end user myself, this experience helps mitigate design flaws before they even happen. I have a diverse and well rounded technical skill-set which I have developed for 10+ years both professionally and through my unique hobbies. Some of my skills include mechanical design, structural design, electrical design, system level integration and testing, manual and CNC machining, materials selection, corrosion resistance, high vacuum system design, TIG welding, troubleshooting, and technical presentations. I have many personal projects which I work on in my free time. The project I am most proud of is my high vacuum chamber and deposition system which I designed, fabricated, and tested myself. The chamber is 3.4 cubic feet, has an ultimate pressure of around 1x10^-6 Torr, and is backed with a mechanical and diffusion pump. The chamber is equipped with an adjustable dual-gas feed as well as sample bias and various KF and CF ports for additional inputs and data collection. I have also designed, manufactured, and tested a "bolt on - bolt off" prototype cathodic arc deposition system which I have used to make titanium nitride coatings thus far and am continuing to mature as a design. This project highlights my skills exceptionally well because it demonstrates my hands on skills as well as my well rounded skill base which I directly apply on a daily basis.
