About Nicholas Thorne

As a Penobscot Wabanaki Native American Ecologist it has come to my attention that though Western science may appear and operate like the teachings of our Native ancestors, Western science often fails to represent the people, languages, and culture of the lands most intimate relatives. As an educator, inspiring the youth through the languages and teachings of our Native nations, through lessons about culture, language, and human history, is how I walk in the way of my ancestors, who have always protected the earth. We need to decolonize the way we educate the youth, through the teachings of the lands everlasting stewards. Educating future generations through the ways in which indigenous peoples view the land, and its resources, is how I honor my heritage as a transnational citizen and express my sovereignty for the world's indigenous peoples.
