About Nicholas Whaley

I am a 3rd year English Teacher and recently completed my Single Subject English teaching credential at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles California. This was the final step in achieving my life-long goal of teaching the future generations of scholars.I describe my teaching style as student centered. This means that students do the, “heavy lifting” of our course work through discussion and deliberation. I love to challenge our scholars by presenting themwith a question to, at first self-reflect on, then discuss with their table peers, and finally deliberatewhole-class. This type of instruction allows for our scholars to voice their own opinions and allows for students to advocate for themselves in classroom deliberation when their opinion gets challenged. My goal in life is to make a difference in our future generations. A quote I live by is from Robert F. Kennedy when he states, “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance” (Day of Affirmation Address, Robert F. Kennedy,). I know with hard work and dedication that I will help send these ripples of hope through the nation. To build the future generations and inspire students to be the voice that represents the oppressed.
