About Nicholas Wu

My previous jobs have made me find love in interacting with people whether they be my peers, customers, superiors, or new connections. Working with Sheridan Nurseries has driven me to take on leadership and build upon strong customer relationships whether it is finding their product, answering and directing inquiries, and physically carrying product to their vehicle. It is very rewarding to feel that I have improved someone’s day and create relationships with new people. Additionally, the company has great work events to socialize and strengthen relationships of the workforce which positively motivates workers to work together for enhanced functioning. Working with Toronto Hydro has given me many challenges, especially in the aspect of working with minimal supervision. With minimal supervision, I learned to take more initiative by giving myself more tasks that challenge me to improve on my skills. I worked with the collections team which essentially contacts customers regarding late payments towards their hydro. It can be a challenge contacting individuals regarding owed money; however, I have learned ways to make arrangements with the customers so that they can make the late payments while maintaining strong customer relationships. There is so much talent at Toronto Hydro that although I worked with minimal supervision, I had many peers that were more than willing to provide me guidance. Studying at Trent University’s Water Science program has given me a new perspective and a love for the natural environment. I have gained may technical and analytical skills through my studies as I have conducted studies done both independently and within a group. The studies conducted pushed me to enhance my analytical skills with R Studio and Microsoft Excel to produce technical reports on a bi-weekly basis. These studies relate to environmental challenges we face as a result of urbanization and climate change. Additionally, the program required me to conduct laboratory experiments and field studies which provided me with hands on experience in working with scientific equipment. My experiences made me the person I am today who has a love for wildlife, water, outdoor and indoor environments, making new connections, and strengthening customer relationships.
