About Nicholas Zecchini

Ever since I was a little boy, I loved to create. When I was five years old, I would build towers with Duplo blocks. When I was ten, you could find me designing space ships using Lego bricks. At the age of 12, I constructed massive fortresses and mansions in Minecraft. Now, I pursue a mechanical engineering degree with the hopes of doing the real thing. I have a deep love for all things space, an affection that manifested from my fascination with Star Wars. This fantastical universe made me dream of a world where space travel and other forms of advanced technology are the norm. Because of this, I decided that I also wanted to pursue a degree in physics in order to learn more about the mysteries of this universe. With this, I was given the opportunity to do research on Black Hole X-Ray Binary Star Systems in order to learn more about how to model accretion discs. I hope that someday I will be able utilize my physics degree along with my mechanical engineering degree in order to work on projects that are (literally) out of this world. Another passion of mine is that of athletics. I have been swimming competitively since I was nine, I ran cross country and track in middle school and high school, and I have been playing Ultimate Frisbee for all of college. Even before I started swimming, I played baseball, basketball, soccer, and even hockey! I simply love the thrill of competition and the comradery you gain sports. Additionally, competitive sports have taught me not only determination, but also how to work well as a group. It has taught me both how to be on a team, as well as how to lead a team, qualities that I later learned are necessary for an engineer. I intend to use the determination and hard-work I learned from competitive sports to help myself achieve my dreams as a mechanical engineer.
