Background
About Nick Abele
I am a designer with experience in a variety of disciplines including branding, wayfinding, experiential graphics, information design, publications, user experience, and mobile apps. For me, design is problem solving. I try to bring that approach and thought process to everything I do. I enjoy working both strategically and creatively, bringing clarity to ideas that are complex, and making beautiful things. I believe the best design is clear, meaningful, and timeless and I seek out opportunities where I can achieve those principles. In 2010 I studied design in Switzerland at the Schule für Gestaltung, St.Gallen and in 2012 I graduated with a BFA in communication design from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Following graduation, I was selected as the inaugural Design Fellow with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, living and working at Taliesin West for an 18 month fellowship. Each of these opportunities formed my thought process and approach to design work. In my career I have: • Managed the brand, visual identity, publications, campus wayfinding, and event design needs for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. • Tackled complex information design problems for large businesses and small non-profits at ThoughtForm. • Designed fan-focused digital products for professional sports teams and venues at YinzCam. • Led the design and implementation of wayfinding systems for stadiums, offices, training facilities, and large campuses at Populous. • Designed experiential branding and sponsorship activations for large venues. In addition to design, I also have many side interests including architecture, history, and cartography. In my spare time I enjoy playing piano, following baseball, hiking/backpacking, and maintaining a well-stamped passport. I appreciate your interest in my work and I'm always ready to talk about new design opportunities.
