About Nick Butler
Nick has worked in transport planning for the last 20-years in a career spanning local and national Government, and now on a national level for Modeshift. During this time, he has overseen the development of the Modeshift STARS scheme, a national portfolio of accreditation schemes that recognise and reward sites for their efforts to encourage and enable active and sustainable travel to and from their premises. From 2007 to 2015 he worked on Darlington Borough Council’s Local Motion project which was set up as part of the Department for Transport’s Sustainable Travel Demonstration Towns initiative. During this time, he also spent two years as the Department for Transport’s Regional School Travel Advisor for the North East and Yorkshire & The Humber regions. Nick joined the Modeshift Executive Board in 2008 and was appointed Vice-Chair in 2011. He became Modeshift's first employee as the National STARS Manager in March 2015, and now leads the Modeshift Delivery Team as Chief Operating Officer.
