About Nick Dechev

Specialist in Engineering Design & Research. 20 years of experience in Mechatronic System Design, with expertise in: Biomedical System Design, Sensor Design, Autonomous Robotic Instrumentation, and MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems). My core strength and passion is engineering novel ideas & technologies into fully working practical systems. Specifically, engineering design, electro-mechanical hardware development, modeling and simulation, prototyping, and testing. My entrepreneurial background and interests are a major part of my activities. I am currently Acting Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering until July 2020, and am an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Victoria. Previously, I was Director of the Biomedical Engineering Program for 4 years. I received my Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto, and am currently a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. Major Research Work Presently Underway :(1) 3D Printed upper limb prosthesis design and development (2) 3D Printed orthotic device design for club-foot and scoliosis treatment (3) Wireless power/energy transfer for implantable sensors and stimulators Major Research Work Previously Completed:(4) Ultrasound-based tissue tracking and signal processing for prosthesis control (5) Automated robotic instrumentation for vision-based cell analysis and manipulation (6) Robotic microassembly of 3D MEMS, and MEMS design
