As a Structural Engineer, I specify concrete, timber, steel and various other construction materials and technologies through mathematically computing the building stability, foundation type and sizes, column sizes, slab and wall thicknesses and roof structure according to the ground conditions, building use, wind speed and earthquake potential. Whether that is for the design of a domestic house, retail or commercial development, or high rise inner city residential project, the satisfaction of seeing a project develop from a schematic sketch to a completed building is a hugely satisfying process to be apart of.
