About Nick Simmonds
From banking to boat-building to barbel - and fishing all the way! From school I spent seven years with the National Bank of Australasia (now National Australia Bank) learning the basics of international trade finance. Moved to American Express bank (and Dorset) in 1981 and progressed to Director of Trade Finance before redundancy struck. Worked with freight logistics agent Peters & May from to 2003 before undertaking a year's course in traditional wooden boat-building. Worked on restoration of historic Thames launches in Norfolk before returning to Dorset to work on construction of 58' wooden schooner. Lack of another contract led to another change, working as an assessor for boat-building apprentices, many at Sunseeker in Poole, but thankfully with some traditional yards too. As a lifelong angler I applied to the Angling Trust on a whim in 2011 and I now enjoy my new job here in the membership team, where I'm glad to be involved with a great bunch of people working hard for the sport we all love. As part of my job with the Angling Trust I also act as Secretary to the British Record (rod-caught) Fish Committee.
