About Nick Smith

Nick Smith is Managing Director of OfficeAnyplace and Webactive, 2 companies providing SMEs with different forms of IT support. He has great experience in helping small businesses make their IT run for them, and was one of the forerunners in Cloud Computing. Nick first started fiddling with computers from his mother, who worked at IBM for 30 years, and brought home one of the first ‘portable’ computers – a tiny screen in a heavy suitcase-sized device. As well as fixing and breaking that he learnt to use IBM Mainframes 40 years ago, and fell in love with the potential of their ugly green screens. Nick has been active in internet communications since 1994, and saw the potential for Cloud Computing when he set up OfficeAnyplace, a company whose aim was to get you all your information anywhere, over 10 years ago. He has advised Jack Straw, Heston Blumenthal, Richie Benaud, Philip Mould, and Alice Perkins (Chairman of the Post Office) on different aspects of IT. Nick is well-placed to advise on the advantages and potential pitfalls of moving your organisation to the Cloud, and does so in a language that non-techies can understand. He has a frightening knowledge of Marine Fish-keeping, and will bore anyone rigid who gives him the opportunity. He also writes bad poetry and will inflict it on you if you let him.
