Background

About Nicolas E. Beaudoin

I am a field structural geologist and my research focuses on the reciprocal influence between fluids and deformation in natural rocks. This research is of interest for both industrial (resources, CO2 sequestration) and academic (seismic cycle) domains, and is divided in three problematics: What is the structural and microstructural evolution of folds in a fold and thrust belt? How to track and interpret fluid migrations from the fracture scale to the basin-scale? How fluids impact deformation mechanisms and stress? I developed and applied inter-disciplinary methods that combine structural/microstructural tools (fieldwork, fault and fracture analyse, stylolite analyse, stress inversion) to a geochemical characterization of fluids (isotopes, fluid inclusions, diagenesis studies) in order to characterize the temperature, pressure and chemistry of fluids in a structurally constrained time-scale. This approach has been applied to several mountain ranges (US Rockies, Pyrenees, Apennines) and my works have been published in several peer-review journals. I am currently a postdoctoral fellowship (Marie Curie Experienced Researcher) at the University of Glasgow where I work on pressure-solution and fluid flow during mountain building and in ore-deposits (MVT) environment. This work is a part of the academic-industrial partnership, EU-funded, FlowTrans Innovative Training Network Prior to that I have been a temporary assistant professor at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, where I defended my PhD thesis, which studied changes in the temperature, pressure and the chemistry of fluids moving through a diffuse fracture network formed in relation with the development of folds and foreland basin. I have already acquired solid teaching experience (more than 400 hours in class, plus participation in the supervision of several masters theses) during these years.
