About Nicolas Schweizer

Nicolas Schweizer has over 20 years of experience in public finance and administration of fiscal policies across multiple state-wide programs and agencies ranging from social services to natural resources to K-12 and higher education. Mr. Schweizer is currently the Chief Business Officer of the Sacramento County Office of Education, working to support the county’s programs and the districts in the county, both programmatically and fiscally, and improve outcomes for all students in the county. Concurrently, Mr Schweizer is supporting the work of the Financial Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) as a consultant on their review of the oversight performed by county offices of education of districts that have received emergency state loans. Prior to his current position, he was working to stand up financial, administrative, and human resources functions and develop and implement a financial plan for the new state-wide Online Community College District established by the State of California to create flexible, affordable instructional programs for working adults. In his position with the California Department of Education, Mr Schweizer partnered with school district, county office of education, and FCMAT leadership to help multiple school districts avoid fiscal insolvency and with the California Department of Finance to provide state fiscal relief funding when necessary. While at the California Department of Finance, he worked to develop and implement various initiatives to increase funding for K-12 education and community colleges, correct historical inequities in school district funding, and eliminate most state restrictions on the expenditure of funds. He also supported the creation and administration of initiatives to encourage the state’s public colleges and universities to adopt innovative programs to improve student outcomes and to expand the delivery of courses through technology. In addition, he coordinated and developed budget policies and proposals affecting the state’s child welfare, food assistance, welfare-to-work, and employment development programs.
