About Nicole Byrd

I began my professional journey by serving in the United States Navy right after high school. After my military service, I earned my bachelor's degree from Lynchburg College in 2006 and entered the field of juvenile services, working in group homes and community-based outreach. In 2008, I transitioned into foster care services with the local Department of Social Services. Over eight years, I served as the Independent Living Coordinator, supporting youth in developing life skills and successfully transitioning from foster care to adulthood. Driven by a passion for mental health and youth advocacy, In 2013, I completed my first Master’s Degree in Human Services and Wellness Counseling from Liberty University in 2013. I returned to graduate school in 2016 to pursue my Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) path and began working directly in mental health as an Intensive In-Home Clinician and Therapeutic Day Treatment provider in schools. I later supervised an alternative day treatment program in 2018. That same year, I also re-engaged with the foster care population in a new capacity, working in treatment foster care as a Family Services Specialist. Currently, I serve as a supervisor for Treatment Foster Care in Lynchburg, leading a dedicated team to support youth and families. I returned to complete my 2nd Masters degree in 2023. I'm proud to have graduated with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in May 2025, continuing my commitment to mental wellness, youth empowerment, and community support.
