About Nicole Gray

I am currently working as a research administrator for the Centre of Reproductive Research and Communication for a women’s health charity. Alongside my research role I also undertake a dual role between admin assistant and healthcare assistant. Within my role as a HCA I work in theatre and recovery and have many responsibilities such as; in operative scanning (ultrasound), emotional support, cleaning up theatre and taking observations such as temperature, blood pressure and stats. I also use several systems to perform my admin duties which include creating surgical books, scanning / uploading documents and liaising with clients. My previous role in prescribing within general practice has a vast number of different responsibilities including but not limited to; checking medications are due, issuing medication to the GP to be signed, drug monitoring, recalling patients and raising blood forms. My role also includes liaising with doctors and pharmacists about the correct medications / doses for the patient, processing hospital letters and speaking directly to the patient to ensure their needs are met. I also undertake setting up repeat dispensing and dealing with more complex patients such as those needing weekly medications or those on reducing regimes. I can use the BNF confidently to check drug information and I often find myself reading the NICE guidance which is beyond my role to feed my curiosity and to continue learning. I am a graduated biomedical scientist, during my time at university I learnt many important laboratory procedures such as electrophoresis and PCR. Alongside this I gained key laboratory skills such as creating a sterile environment and equipment care.
