About Nicole Redvers
Dr. Nicole Redvers, ND, MPH, is a member of the Deninu K’ue First Nation and has worked with various Indigenous patients and communities around the globe helping to bridge the gap between Indigenous traditional and modern medical and research systems. She is co-founder and chair of the Arctic Indigenous Wellness Foundation based in the Canadian North with her foundation awarded the $1 million-dollar 2017 Arctic Inspiration Prize for their work with marginalized populations within Land-based healing settings in the Northwest Territories. Dr. Redvers is currently an associate professor, Western Research Chair and Director of Indigenous Planetary Health at the University of Western Ontario. She is past assistant professor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine and the Department of Indigenous Health at the University of North Dakota where she co-developed the first Indigenous Health PhD degree program in North America. She has been actively involved at the national and international level promoting the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in planetary health and education for sustainable healthcare. Dr. Redvers is a commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Arctic Health, sits on the steering committee for the Planetary Health Alliance, co-chairs the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada Planetary & Global Health Committee, sits on the Canada Research Coordinating Committees’ Indigenous Leadership Circle in Research, and is an advisor for the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH). Her scholarly work engages a breadth of local to global scholarly projects attempting to bridge gaps between Indigenous and Western ways of knowing as it pertains to individual, community, and planetary health. Dr. Redvers recently published the trade paperback, The Science of the Sacred: Bridging Global Indigenous Medicine Systems and Modern Scientific Principles. She was a previous merit scholar at Dartmouth Colleges’ Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice and is continuing her life-long passion for leaning at the University of Oxford while continuing to work with her Indigenous Elders in the area of knowledge translation as it pertains to planetary health.
