About Nicole Taplin

My studies in cell and molecular biology have prepared me for my future position as laboratory technician on a research team implementing current molecular technologies. In 2016, I discovered my passion on the cover of TIME magazine. I was fascinated by CRISPR's ability to edit genes, revealing a growing industry in its youth and an exciting opportunity to take part in the evolution of genetic engineering.Immediately, I pursued my Laboratory Technician Certificate in Biotechnology from Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC), which I earned in 2017. I mastered lab skills, such as performing PCR via restriction digest, bacterial transformation, gel electrophoresis, and utilizing Bio-Rad Imaging System. I demonstrated proper handling of microscopes, specimens, hazardous materials, fume hood, thermocycler, and incubator. I performed aseptic technique when isolating, sub-culturing, making batch cultures, calibrating pH buffers, and making agar plates during my summer internship at NVCC.I attained my Cell and Molecular Biology B.S. from Baylor University in 2021. There, I refined my lab skills when I successfully identified two unknown bacteria, performed in silico PCR and gel amplification to predict recombinant gene outcomes, and isolated bacterial colonies on a variety of agar plates, including MacConkey's, S&S, PEA, and mannitol slat agar plates. Science courses I completed include, but not limited to, microbiology, molecular biology, organic chemistry, and genetics. My goal as your lab technician will be to demonstrate GLP, organization, time management, interpersonal communication, and efficiency in learning new skills and producing accurate results following experimental procedures. Post-graduation, I am prepared to work alongside an enthusiastic team of researchers ready to rock the biotechnology industry with new innovations and discoveries!
