I have spent my entire career working within the construction industry, initially in local government engineering departments but later with civil engineering contracting businesses, always looking for the next challenging opportunity. The key skills developed during my career are- 1. My track record in management and contracting 2. Astute commercial and contractual awareness 3. Good written and verbal communication skills, able to write detailed letters, briefs, reports, contractual claims etc. on complex technical matters 4. Practised in managing staff, and supervising a workforce, contractors, subcontractors, appointed consultants and lawyers. Computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and IBM Lotus Notes used on a daily basis. Lapsed knowledge of Microsoft Project and Wessex Estimating. I am now looking for an interesting Non-Executive Directorship, perhaps in Construction but not necessarily so. I could be interested in businesses / organisations dealing with Heritage, or Environment, or Property Development, and probably many other sectors that didn't come to mind when writing this profile. In preparation for such a role I did attend a 2-day residential course at Cranfield University School of Management in May 2015. Outside of work, I have 20 years experience as honorary treasurer for a number of private member and enthusiast organisations. For 5 years, I was also the honorary secretary for my local vintage car club. Following the death of my father, I also managed his small portfolio of tenanted properties, one of which I still manage 20 years later. My personal interests are vintage and classic cars, which includes getting my hands dirty carrying out restoration work, and walking, my favourite areas being the Yorkshire and Durham Dales, and the Lake District, although I have twice ascended Mount Snowden in recent years.
