About Nigel Lightfoot
Professor Lightfoot has a long and distinguished career in public health and is now the President of Nigel Lightfoot Associates. Until October 2016 he was the Executive Director of CORDS (Connecting Organisations for Regional Disease Surveillance), based in Lyon, France. Until April 2010 he was the Chief Advisor for Emergency Response at the Health Protection Agency (now part of Public Health England), leading on pandemic influenza, emerging health threats, CBRN response strategies and international relations. He continues to provide expert and strategic advice to EC DEVCO, The International Science and Technology Centre, NATO, several governments and Yorkshire Water Services. Professor Lightfoot was a key member of the Global Health Security Initiative, where he co-chaired the Risk Management and Communications Working Group, the Working Group Chairs and Delegation Liaisons Forum and the Early Alerting and Reporting Project; he is internationally renowned for his contributions to reduce the impact of bioterrorism threats. He was appointed CBE in the 2009 New Year’s Honours List for services to public health.
