About Nigel McKelvey

Dr Nigel McKelvey is Head of Dept of Early Education and Social Studies at ATU Donegal and previously Head of Flexible and Online Learning at LYIT and is a former lecturer in Computing with over 13 years experience. Prior to this, Dr McKelvey was a software developer and project lead for an international aviation software development company. Nigel has successfully gained funding under the Google Educator’s Grant opportunities as well as being a partner in an Erasmus+ project on Digital Wellbeing for Educators. He has developed multiple accredited programmes for educators in Ireland with a focus on Computer Science. Nigel supervises post-graduate research in the areas of Computer Science Education, Cybersecurity, DevOps, Cloud Technologies and Big Data Analytics. He has recently been appointed as chairperson for the Flexible Working and Managing Career Breaks subgroup of LYIT’s Athena SWAN. • Current Ethics Committee Member in School of Science. • External Examiner and new programme validation panel member.
