Background
About Nigel Ostime
I am a chartered architect with over 25 years’ experience in the design and delivery of large, complex projects in infrastructure, workplace, retail, residential and town centre mixed use. At Hawkins\Brown I co-lead the Specialist Design Studio which provides support to the project teams in technical, BIM, digital, Design for Manufacture and Assembly and project delivery. I also lead on contract negotiation, other legal matters and insurance. I led development of the 2nd edition of the DfMA Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work, published Sept 2021 and am currently leading the Design Integration workstream at the Offsite Alliance. If you are interested in joining please go to I am a member of the BSI committee reviewing Offsite and Modern Methods of Construction, and the MMC steering group for DLUHC, and I sat on the Produced Capital steering group for the Value Toolkit. I established and until 2021 chaired the RIBA Client Liaison Group, which provided an interface between the institute and client bodies, and which has been responsible for a series of influential publications including 'Client & Architect - Developing the Essential Relationship','What Clients Think of Architects' and 'Building in Quality'. I also sat on the RIBA Practice & Profession Committee during this time. I was part of the RIBA President's Fact Finding Mission in 2021 (covering 'Delivery') which formed the basis of the RIBA's 2034 Masterplan. I was author of the domestic and commercial versions of Client's Guide to Engaging an Architect, Small Projects Handbook (two editions), RIBA Job Book (three editions) and Architect’s Handbook of Practice Management (two editions) and I am a visiting lecturer at the Cambridge, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Westminster schools of architecture, covering practice management and 'what clients want'. I write occasional articles for trade journals on a range of topics, and deliver talks on DfMA/MMC at conferences.
