I started my working life in retail, where I got a very good grounding in all aspects of work and understood what was required and how to deliver on a time scale. This was an experience in a totally different working environment where the customer has not come in willingly to spend but has been forced so this meant that my customer service skills were put to the test. After a year of covering centers I was given my own which at the time was failing and they were looking to close this center, I developed a good team around me and after a year we had turned the center around and had doubled the sales. Due to this I was then given two other centers to manage. During a restructure of the company I was looking after the six centers for around five months thinking this was my opportunity to come out of centers I worked very long days and did not take any time off. However it was only when a colleague walked into one of the centers I was visiting and introduced himself as the new area manager I found out that I did not have the job and was then asked to go back to running just one center.I took the time then to actively look to change jobs. I applied to be a site manager for a school. I did not have any previous experience but did know about H&S and customer service. The head at this time wanted to come away from the image of eth caretaker walking around with a bunch of keys. he was looking with the community manager to expand the community side and make the most out of the facilities. We then had a change of head and at the same time were identified as a school that required a re-build. the head took me from the site managers role and put me on the build team with three colleagues from his SLT. My job was just to go to meetings and go into the build and make myself always available to the build team and architects so that I had an understanding of any problems and would ensure that he knew. I was then promoted to my current post.
