About Nik Barnes

Nik Barnes is an experienced paediatric radiologist and has been a consultant since 2003. Nik was Clinical Lead for IM & T/CCIO at Alder Hey Children’s hospital for 10 years and his passion throughout his career has been to use innovation and the application of technology to improve healthcare for patients, relatives and the clinicians that deliver it.Nik’s experience as both Clinical Lead for IT and CCIO at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has given him an in-depth understanding of the significant issues clinician’s face when adopting software in clinical practice and how such problems might be overcome. As a result, Nik developed the “Specialty Package” concept to overcome these issues. As a paediatric doctor, Nik has worked to develop ways to help children and their families feel more secure in the health care environment, thus creating the concept of the Alder Play App. Nik led the development of version 1 of the Alder Play App and continues to advise on the development of subsequent versions.At the beginning of 2021 Nik established NT HITT Consulting with the aim of combining his clinical, IT and Innovation experience in the wider health economy, primarily to aid in the development of healthcare technology that enables clinicians and patients to manage health in a smarter way.
