Background
About Nikke Northrup
Passionate Psychology Student | Youth Advocate | Teaching & Research Experience | Volunteer Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Utah Tech University, I am dedicated to leveraging my academic knowledge and real-world experiences to make a positive impact on the lives of children and adolescents. My focus is on preventing and treating childhood adverse experiences, as well as developmental and psychological disorders. Furthermore, I am deeply interested in the integration of physiological and psychological health. Recognizing the intricate connection between mind and body, I am committed to exploring holistic approaches that address both aspects in promoting well-being. As a Utah Tech student, I have had various opportunities that have allowed me to strengthen many of my academic and professional skills. I am a member of the Neuroscience in Relationship Development (NiRD) Lab, where I collaborate on projects that focus on various topics such as child and family mental health and gender and sexuality. We are currently planning the Vagina Project, an annual event that addresses multidisciplinary issues under the topics of gender, sexuality, and mental health. I am also a Teaching assistant for an undergraduate psychology statistics course, as well as a former General Writing Tutor. As a dedicated Youth Advocate at the DOVE Center, I am passionate about supporting children affected by domestic violence. My role focuses on providing trauma-informed childcare and fostering a safe environment for children ages 0-12 in both shelter and outreach settings. I am committed to empowering young individuals through psychosocial support, skill development, and community collaboration. 🤝 Outside of academics and work, I am a devoted Big Sister with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, providing invaluable mentorship to a child in my community. Committed to community service, I prioritize my academics and work experiences to create a positive impact here in St. George. I am driven by the belief that by combining my passion for psychology with hands-on involvement, I can contribute to creating a brighter future for the next generation. Let's connect! I am eager to collaborate with like-minded individuals who share a commitment to making a difference in our community and beyond.
